Fishing around Hurricane?

I just got back from two days @ Sand Hollow, and boy, I freaking love that place. The water is so low that there are no reeds/structure to pitch into or around, which is rough for a fly flinger like me, as I usually cruise my pontoon along the edges and slaughter LMB. This trip was different. I didn't catch quite the quantity (usually 100 to 150 fish per day), but the quality was better than I've ever had. I found most fish in 12 to 20 feet of water, in seemingly bare bottom lake. I only had a trolling motor on my toon, so I was only able to "troll" for a few hours, but knocked them dead. After that, it was kick and cast. I had the best luck on the South side within 30 yards of the buoy line, give or take on each side depending on the depth. Lots of fish over fifteen inches, biggest was eighteen inches. Minnow patterns and plastics seemed to work best, and olive/white and plain white were the best colors. Caught a few on cranks, firetiger was the only color that worked, and a few on senkos - orange/brown and green - but mostly on minnow patterns. Get some road runner jigs. Seriously. I had 5 when I started, and lost all 5 due to snags and one big fish that I never saw. White with a little pink on the tip of the nose, with the plastic minnow on the hook. Didn't matter what time of day, what type of water, what kind of weather, that was the go-to of the trip. Once they were all lost, I tried a regular jig head with the same minnow and had decidedly fewer bites/fish. It was remarkable. The fish must really key in on the flash and movement of the blade.

Of course, in two weeks a lot can/will change -- so take an assortment of everything and see what's cooking.
