hooks rigs for ice fishing
#24
[cool][#0000ff]Definitely agree with you on the line size. About the only time I drop down to 4# is if I am fishing micro stuff for touchy bluegills. Otherwise, I fish mostly 6 or 8# Excalibur and I get just as many fish as the guys who hold forth about using 2# spider web. And I am more likely to be fishing a 1/4 oz. jig than a 1/64 oz. I can have 3 fish on the ice before the guys with bitty bites ever reach the bottom the first time.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]But...if you are getting break-offs on the hookset with your 10# line you REALLY do need to try some other line...or some other knots. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The Excalibur is getting hard to find. Cabelas used to carry it instore. Then they only sold it online. Now I have to buy it somewhere else altogether. Sportsmans doesn't sell it either. But there are a lot of other guys in Utah that use it and love it.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Again, if you wanna get together for a meetup I will be glad to topshot a couple of spools for you. Even with only 6 or 8 pound I defy you to break it on a strike or on a fish. When I fish it from my tube I have a heck of a time breaking off on a snag with even the 6#. And I have to wrap the line around my hand and pull hard. I can't break it by pulling with the rod. And it is similar diameter to most other copolymers of equal break strength. And is also fairly inexpensive...especially when compared to the "super lines".[/#0000ff]
