I had to offset the steering handle on mine due to the short distance between my seat back and the motor. No way even limbered up to reach and drive effectively. I kick about 90% when fishing and maneuvering about, and use the motor to get from one general area to another. Except for this trip where the water was so cold. The feet needed to see the sun a bit to warm back up.
I like the spinning the motor around 180 idea as it would give the higher speed when going backwards. I don't know yet what the prop to fin clearance will be with it set up that way as my boat is fairly short. I'll have to check it out. The motor has a reverse, but it's considerably slower than the forward positions top speed, and when using fins to steer, the drag can make quite a bit of difference.
