I had a motor on my 6' Apline. Plenty clearance. Now that was a short boat[
] That boat we took the head off the motor and extended the wiring. Put the head in the rod holder hole

With my Minn Kota 30's we took the head off. Added ribbon wire. Took the rheostat out of the handle and mounted it in a small metal box from Radio Shack. Put a knob on it and I now had control right next to me.

Cost was about $18. total.
