I don't tie but that's my favorite fly for golden trout. I'm pretty sure LaFontaine was the inventor of the rollover scud. As FG alluded it traditionally has mono sticking out over the hookeye. Now other scuds do have fibers off the rear so don't see why the pattern wouldn't work. I think the action of this fly is the critical part.
Not being someone that ties this is the one fly that I find both hard and expensive to get. If anyone ever wants to accept some orders for it let me know.
