CJ STRIKE anyone fishing there?
#22
66 Birdman,

I do not necessarily agree with your opinion. I will paste portions of your recent posts:

Quote:What I cannot understand is all of the people that were there filling bucket after bucket with tiny crappie and perch. That is what we in the midwest call terrible management.

Quote:That doesnt change the fact that there needs to be some management. The lakes I grew up fishing in the midwest have the same cycle but there were always nice sized crappie no matter what part of the cycle the crappie were in because there were minimum size limits and creel limits in place.

I am not a biologist and hopefully a real one will chime in here but I don't think you have presented enough evidence in your posts to be claiming anything to be "fact". Creel limits and more rules do not necessarily make for a better situation IMHO. It is quite a leap to think that the rules from where you came created the big fish. I am more inclined to believe what (the other folks have stated and) has been the policy here in Idaho, namely to listen to our F & G biologists and let them make the decisions. Some people claim that for certain species such as perch and crappie, the amount harvested by fishermen has little to do with the population cycles. My observation has been that if any creel limits would help, it would be for limiting the harvest of large crappie on C.J. Strike rather than small crappie. I would think that for a large body of water, such as C.J. Strike, perch will take care of themselves - independent of rules. However, I am not going to say this is fact since I am not sure and not an expert.
