Now, it's been a few years but when I worked with the DWR in the northern region fisheries as a tech I thought I read some old(and I mean old) data about perch stocking in Utah in the late 1800's. I specifically remember local rivers(i.e. the Ogden and Weber) having been legally stocked with yellow perch. It seemed to me that may have been standard protocol, introducing new species into waters and seeing if they would flourish or not. Of course we know now of the importance native species and have shifted more toward restoring them in their historical range. Think of all the waters stocked with rainbow, brown, and book or even different strains of cutthroat trout. Most of which are NOT native to Utah. Again, that has been quite a few years ago and my memory is probably a bit sketchy.
