as kids we would stand in the river just as soon as it wormed up and catch pike by tickling thier bellies before attempting to pick them up hold them in the air and put them back... It was something to do..
yes you had to aproch them vary slow, any fast moves or stiring up the dirt on the river bottom and they were gone.
