I have hear that you have to be real careful with them and also that its sometimes hard for a new user to get a perfect vertical hole, it takes practice and it sometimes makes it difficult to get that last bit of the hole done.
I wouldn't try to bend it back you may damage it more sent if off to frank and have him sharpen it and he can put it back to factory specks as long as it isn't bent too bad. the power augers have whats called a power point that helps start the hole but i have heard you don't really want that when using the hand crank.
