Bear Lakes Stinky Whitefish
#2
That is interesting since I've never noticed one (Bear Lake or Bonneville) that stinks. With the sun we've been having on Bear Lake lately, did you allow your fish to remain on the ice in the sun? Even though its been colder than cold, the part facing the sun can warm up and start to rot even with the other side being frozen to the ice. I put my fish in the shade, bury them under the snow or in a bucket out of the direct sun. Sometimes the larger Bonneville WF that eat fish can smell pretty ripe, but that is just the 1/2 digested fish in their stomachs and if you hit the stomach with your knife when cleaning them, they can stink.
