Hey JR, I see that you found Lake Balboa. That one is only 4 miles from my house. I just wanted to add a little to that as I fished that one all summer long waiting for TNT to get the hang of things before I took him to do some real fishing.
Anyway There are no known bass and it has been quite a few years since anyone has pulled a trout or cat from there. But on the other hand, There are bluegills, tilapia, and carp. They haven't stocked cats or bows for quite some time since the water quality is not all that good.
My son and I still use that lake just to try out new rods and reels. Its better than just using the back yard. And we do practice our C&R there.
Lake Balboa is a fun place to fish. It is tubeless and toonless but they do rent paddle boats. The lake only reaches a depth of about 12' in middle and like I said, the water clarity is really bad. I would not suggest eating anything from that lake but I would suggest having alot of fun with ultralight gear and barbless hooks for there gill and t-laps and circle hooks for the 2-5lb carp.
