They knew if they could not get license fee increases through the legislature... that cuts were going to be made. They have known that for years now, well before this sequester in the federal government even came to fruition. So I do not think this was a doom and gloom knee jerk response. The state simply hasn't raised license fees like they are supposed to, to keep funding things at the current rate. I think fee's have been increased over a dozen times since the Game and Fish Department was founded in Wyoming. If you ask me, the people in charge need to step up to the plate and get it done. Raise the fee's you need to keep our resources in good shape. Tourism (fishing and hunting) is a big industry here and only getting bigger...
Natural Gas revenue is our state's number one source of income but natural gas prices have plummeted. It's not going to get fixed from mineral taxes. The state needs to increase fee's slightly and turn Wyoming into a lotto state and generate some income that way.
