I laid my line out in a heavy wind one day and all I remember is a bead headed prince coming back and hitting me between the eyes! Really, not just a fish story.
and that is why i am a huge advocate of always fishing with at the least glasses on. When we toss big stuff there is a reason we nickname it chuckin n duckin.
As far as line I am partial to RIO Gold myself. With the coloring of it you can get an idea of exactly what you need to have out to load your rod up. I can double haul that stuff and shoot it farther than any other line I have thrown to this point. With the wind, like FG said you need to usually side arm it more I also tend to roll cast a lot more when the breeze is blowing as it keeps the line fairly low.
I was given some at one of the IF shows. They had it strung up on a Z. While I was impressed as heck with the Sage, the Gold fell short. Maybe because of the Fast action. Anyway, I never use it. Maybe I will have to give it another try.
Speaking of Sage. They had a line at Sierra Trading post for $39.00. It is 230 grain WF. What a fabulous bass/carp line.
The Gold performs really well on TFO's fast action rods I haven't tried throwing it on any other setups ( 4 different TFO' models all 5 or 6 wts). If I was to string it up on a couple of the fiberglass rods I have I am guessing I would hate it. The way that line is setup it just performs really well for tossing big stuff on a fast action rod in the wind. I haven't thrown it much for smaller drys since when I start tossing small stuff I usually pull out the 2 or 3 wt.
