I to have fished the boats up and down the coast for years as well.

Not likely to be many people on the boat that will be happy to see some one hooking 25
or 30 pound yellows on 10# line.

Every body has paid the same price to get on the boat. You are cutting into other peoples expensive fishing time by using too light line. Sure you will get bit better, but it is just not courteous to your fellow anglers.

There are a lot of unwritten rules to learn if you want to fish the public boats.

That being said, ye if you are in deep water, not on anchor, and have time to play them you can land big fish on light line.

My best was 280# yellowfin tuna on 60#. It took five hours and an 11 mile chase.
