I tried the same spot again this morning at sunrise. The water is higher, and even more weeds are moving through. Idaho Power reports 4,420 cfs at Swan Falls at 7:00, but I'm not sure how long it takes for the flow changes to reach my spot. I think I was still seeing the 5,100 cfs that it was running at until early this morning. The water is still very clear.
Weeds were a huge problem again. I finally found one little protected spot where my gear didn't get dragged away, and caught one nice fish. It wasn't what I expect from a catfish - the relatively slow but strong pull. It violently pulled my rod horizontal, then when I got the rod in hand the fish swam 20 yards or more across the current in a flash. Then it jumped and thrashed on the surface before diving back to the bottom. It felt more like a huge bass than a cat.
I have to work this afternoon and the weeds were too much of a hassle for as slow as the bite was. So, I left not long after that. If the river stays this high I'll probably start fishing that spot from my boat so I don't have to cast out so many yards of line to collect weeds.
