i have a simalir story was out free diving one day off the CA coast when i came across hunderds of ablones had no place to put them as i was knocking them off the rocks so i just started shoving them down my wet suit left with about 15 next day while heading up the coast on a sportfishing boat i was deckhand on i pointed out the area where i was diving and got them all to the captain he said i was damm lucky fish and game didn't catch me as that was a protected area and the fine for removing them was a 1000 dollars apeice !!!
