North Fork X5 Outboard
#22
I didn't mean to open up a can of worm's, but that's why the propane powered outboard sound's like a good idea. I think i read a 1lb can, the green ones you use on your camp stove will run about 2 hrs.
My marine dealer says to run all the ethanol gas out of the carb after every use.
2 hr./can isn't very efficient. And is the 2 hour run at idle, half throttle etc.? And common sense and the owners manual will tell you to run the carb dry. Always have on our OB's.
Our other OB is a '90's Honda 9.9. I run premium gas and Seafoam (and pretty sure the gas has got 10% alchol in it) and never had a problem with todays fuel. Incorrect jets, wrong plugs will make an OB run like $hit too. I think the biggest problem though is what your dealer said. Run it out of fuel or you'll have major problems, not from E10 in the gas, but from the fuel in the carb. Doesn't take but a few hours in the sun for the gas to start the varnishing process and start gumming up the system.
