Nearly a month ago, they liberalized the limits in anticipation of a winterkill. Did they totally remove all restrictions? No. Why not? Because the low water and "abundant fish population may" lead to a winterkill....and it "may" not...and it "may" just lead to a partial "winterkill". It is obvious from the normal regulations for Newton and the liberalized regulations at Newton that biologists feel two things need to be done: 1) panfish as well as LMB and channel catfish need to be harvested 2) Tiger musky need to be protected at all cost. Why would they feel this way? It seems pretty obvious to me that the DWR, at least, feel like they have an overabundance of perch, crappie, bluegill, LMB, and channel catfish and they need to protect all TM to ensure a high number of fish are being preyed upon...
