First carp on the fly
#43
Well fishned, I guess we can say we started a pretty good debate here! I hope it's water under the bridge and we can move on from here to keep telling our fish stories. This conversation has taken a fun turn, I know how hard it was to land one on a 6wt WITH someone netting for me! Joni, let me know when and where this is going down and I will be there to see this...
W

We did at that didn't we[Wink].

I have enjoyed some of the responses and opinions. Even got a chuckle about Mojo's errant assumption about me apparently never having crossed paths with the mighty Utah carp. It sent me way back to some pleasant memories to the contrary which, if you will indulge me, I will share.

I grew up in Centerville. When I was in Jr. High, right around 1969 or 70, my buddy Mike and I used to jump on our stingrays and ride down to a small pond west of town and fish for carp. This was before I-15 came through and they drained it. We would take the carp and run a line through the gills and throw them in the puddles behind us and while we were waiting for the next bite on our poles, we would use them for target practice with our wrist rockets - good times. No respecters of carp were we.

I have never worried about lactic acid build up in a carp simply because I have seen them thrown on the shore for a couple hours, then kicked back in and watched them swim away.

I had a camping expedition with several buddies on the shore of Flaming Gorge back in the early 80's. After a couple days with much beer and not very many fish, one of us happened to hook a large carp much to the entertainment of a very bored fishing camp. Once he had the beast reeled to within a few feet of the shore, he opened the bail and let the fish take off again until the line was most the way out saying, "that was too good to keep him all to myself". He then rented the fish out to the rest of us and for a quarter each, we all took a turn reeling it in.

Good times.

Oh, and fishgodess, FWIW I too have several friends I have made over the years over on UOTF. Some I still keep in contact with although I moved away from Utah a couple years ago. I think I even had the pleasure of meeting you at a FYAOAFTP event several years ago (gorgeous redhead with a bad attitude, right?[Wink]). I have been registered over there since the first month they started. I just thing the dialog leaves the realm of civility way to often. Thank you for all you do to make this forum a pleasant place to hang out (even if I don't post very often). If I have something to say, I normally do it via PM, but I read here almost daily.
