RAC meeting in SLC for 2014 Fishing Regs
#60
You know slot limits work. It would be interesting to see if the DWR would take one body of water and put a bass slot limit on it for a few years as a test to see if it would work here or not. I know what the biologist said last night, but what if?????
I would not be surprised if we see a slot limit for bass placed on a place like Jordanelle in the future. Some biologists are not averse to it and as they said last night, they are looking at Jordanelle closely. However, as they also explained last night, it will not work well in getting good growth unless folks harvest more of the uberabundant small bass. And certain folks don't seem to like that idea.

As far as it being an "experiment", IMO, the biologists already have a good handle on what will happen. We have the "old" Jordanelle as an example of lower population densities of bass (for a variety of reasons), a slot limit and outstanding bass size and growth. We also have the "old" Deer creek as another example. 14 years of a slot limit/trophy regs but with a huge population of small smallies. Very few trophy smallies were grown there and they removed the trophy regs. (It did work a bit for the LMB there, but again lower population densities.)

One last point of clarification. The crossbows on carp was only suggested to the RAC by a member of the public. No action on crossbows was passed.
