I saw something interesting today, something that kind of brings the entire issue into perspective.
I saw guys on the ice using LCD's and guys using The vexilar flashers. In one case the end result was a guy using a flasher getting skunked, and in another case was a guy using a LCD getting skunked.
So, in the end the only thing that really mattered was not wich was better by comparing the fine points and details of the electronics world, but catching fish. And sometimes no matter what you use, you just get your but kicked.
And come to think about it, sometimes you run into a guy who has no electronics at all and he caught 50 fish when you got 10.
I would say you just are better off by getting the unit that offers you the most options for your dollar. Unless you are wealthy and then I recomend buying bolth, and using bolth at the same time to ensure you are maximizing all your potential.
For most guys I would assume the reason they prefer the LCD is because they can use it bolth on thier boat, float tube and the ice, and for the dollar it helps them catch fish in all situations.
However, if you like the flasher and mostly ice fish, it may be the best bang for your buck.
Especially if you consider buying a high end LCD that runs you $800.00 - $1,100.00 Not a wise purchse for ice fishing only. You better get year round use out of that bad boy.
IFG brings up a very interesting point. Many of the older generation of fishermen, cut thier gills on flashers because thats all that was available within a reasonable price. But they still work and they still sell them despite the advancments in LCD units.
And what was with the paper graph thing anyways? I know of guys who got them years ago and still use them. What a pain it would be to hassle with all that printed out paper. Sure glad they came up with something else.
