I have caught more coho with that coloring than you can shake a stick at. There may be some validity to a PNW vs. an Alaskan coho being somehow different in appearance, but I would not know nor can I imagine why (they are pacific salmon not to mention coho are notorious wanderers) as all I have seen are Alaska coho, and I am guessing that the reverse can be said of the rest of you.
I have seen good photos of chinooks and sockeye, from the PNW and they look exactly as they do here. Why should coho be any different? Also, coho are by far the most diverse when it comes to displays of spawning colors of all the salmon, the shades, hues and combinations of colors are amazing, chum have nothing on coho when it comes to the paint job, well, or anything else for that matter.
As I stated in my last post, that is a poor picture to make a judgement, but I gave the reasons why I see it as I do.
I hope a solid coho run is developed in Idaho, they, and rainbow trout, are my favorite species of fish to catch. Who does not like catching an acrobat with the stamina and strength of a bull?
