Any Soft Hackle lovers on here?

+1 on what FG said. Less is more. I usually wrap the soft hackle 2 times around the head of the fly. I have used anything from duck breast feathers, pheasant dle, grouse or partridge dle, and grizzly hackles to get the effect I want.
