Walleye and Forage Fish Stocking in Utah

Remember, like Minnesota says, it makes little sense to stock walleye when they reproduce well. That is the whole thing….our Utah reservoirs provide excellent spawning habitat for walleye--they reproduce too well. Stocking anything under these circumstances won't do any good….just like was mentioned with the perch going into Yuba this summer. Those perch are going to be nothing but pike and walleye food. They won't do much to supplement the low perch population. If walleye were to be stocked in Yuba or Deer Creek, they would probably be fry…what do you think would happen to those fry? They would be walleye food.

Stocking baitfishes to help alleviate this stunting problem would be a costly and never-ending process….it would have to be done continuously forever. IT makes much more sense to remove as many fish as possible to make room in the proverbial bucket for all.
