Most of the trout in Utah are NOT native…like the walleye. And, in many cases, like the walleye, those non native trout have NOT done well--places with stunted brook trout populations are a perfect example of this.
IN Utah, our native trout are the colorado river cutthroat, the bonneville cutthroat, and the bear lake cutthroat which is a subspecies off the bonneville strain. Those are our only 3 native trout…and, we don't really have any other native sport fish…unless you count the bonneville cisco or mountain whitefish. Other native Utah fishes would include the utah chub, the utah sucker, june sucker, ponytail, humpback chub, colorado pike minnow, and razorback suckers among others…
…so, I am glad that we have non native species to fish for.
