Since many of the baits mentioned are just offspring of the c1922 Heddon Zaragossa, which was the first stick bait, I guess the Zaragossa should be recognized as the best topwater ever.
Smartweed, you may be right on one account...as far as topwater baits are concerned, Heddon has been making the best ones forever...I think for me the question though, is are they as good at catching fish as they once were...my answer to that is not really..I fished Brownlee a few years ago with a buddy. He was throwing a zara spook and I an Anthrax...first cast 10 feet apart, without even moving mine I got slammed...he got nothing...in the first 100 yards I had landed over 25 bass to his zero...and yes he was working it properly. It may be that the Anthrax is new and they haven't seen it before...but after fishing it for the last 10 years, it brings up the pigs every time. maybe if enough people were throwing it the fish would stop hitting it...but alas, I've never ran into anyone who has even heard of it much less fishes it. With the exception of GSTOTT on here...no one mentioned it or any other Megabass lure for that matter...I have always believed that the superiority of Megabass is due to the realism they strive for...and the fact that Japan has a massive population in a very confined area so I would imagine the fishing pressure is obscene...so to make effective lures one would have to constantly push the boundaries and make new and inventive baits...well I'm sold on them...you pay alot...but they are worth there weight in gold.
