Flotilla 3 Go Time with prize
#37
Jeff, I was glad to finally put some faces to the "handles" I've been seeing on the forum. My son and I had a great time. And, as usual, he out fished, or out lucked me. He caught 3 of the 4 Carp we boated, I got 1 Carp and 1 9" Kitty. The weather and the company could not have been better. When we heard the word that lunch was planned for 1 PM, and I thought it was set to be at the Benson Marina, we both chuckled a bit cause we had the big white cooler in our boat. As it got to about 1215, I looked at my GPS map, and saw we were still at least a couple of "river" miles from the marina, so we stopped fishing and headed direct (as direct as that river allows) for Benson. When we got to the marina dock it was 1:15, and I figured we hadn't done too bad. Then realized all the folks in the picnic area had bows, and didn't recognize any from our floating group. Told my son I couldn't believe we were the first ones there. Then Rod showed up and gave us the directions to "Muddy Road" (I'll bet that road really is muddy when it rains).
But we made it there, delivered the cooler, and enjoyed the food and conversation. Please pass on our many thanks to your mom for the use of that beautiful shady area . I think it was only fitting that she won the raffle for the Black Stone grill.
Now, about the Other prizes............ my boat won one of the Gift Certificates for largest fish, a 26 inch Carp. Now I just read setthehooks report and saw the haul of fish they made, including the 27" Carp. I'm not sure how this should be handled, but really that boat should have gotten that largest fish prize. And from the looks of their posted photos, they got the most total fish, and the most species too.
I am willing and happy to turn that gift certificate over to them should I see them out on the water again anytime the rest of this summer. I'll keep that certificate in my boat.
I had a blast running that river, and plan to do that again now that I know what to expect and look for. As long as the level stays up I think future River Cat fishin outings are in my and my son's future. Posting some of the photos taken from our boat to add to the Flotilla collection.
