A fun aspect of the Green is that changes in water flow will completely change the nature of the river all the way down. And flows can change at anytime so that a float on Sat. can be completely different than your float on Fri. Calm areas become frenetic; boulders are exposed or submerged; currents ebb and flow; etc.
My experiences is that losing or breaking an oar on the Green is a real possibility, so I try to take an replacement that -- if not a duplicate -- is as close a match as possible to my primary oar. For these reason, I've taken a separate pair of oars instead of just one replacement so that if something happens, I've got matched oars to get down the river.
