I'm going to be in Boise in a week or so house sitting for my daughter. She lives off of Broadway about four or five blocks from BSU. I've always wanted to do some fly fishing in town on the Boise River. Can anyone give me any suggestions or help?
I feel I need to apologize for this post heading south. Start off with, I am originally from Glenn's Ferry and I love going to Boise, but as pointed out, I have not fished the in town river.
So, the fact that I am home bound due to my crushed elbow and not having much to do, I googled up fly fishing Boise. Also thinking the OP asked for suggestions.
I admit I modified the list with some suggestions I figured are basic flies that most fly fishers might carry.
(Hoppers and caddis, copper johns, haresears, prince nymphs, muddlers) from the Anglers list.
"(732 cfs) - The river, in town, has been fishing well. The flows are at a much better wading level and there have been a variety of bugs. There are Tricos and midges in the morning, and apparently there have been some Pink Alberts, Pale Morning Duns, and caddis flies in the afternoons and evenings. We've even heard some reports of Blue Wing Oives and Mahogany Duns in some areas. If you are fishing the areas that experience a lot of pressure, you may have to size down your tippet and lengthen your leaders, especially if you're fishing small dry flies. The hopper/dropper fishing has been picking up, as well. When all else fails, break out your streamers and dry fly/dropper set-ups."
My mistake for looking the info up for you instead of mentioning the shop and dropping a couple names.
I hope your visit was or is a good one.
