Thanks for the info Cpierce, I had not heard that before, where can I get the info about determinate or indeterminate varieties? It isn't on those little tags/labels that come with the plants is it? Sounds like I should be should be pruning my plants. I have used those basket type plant holders for years, when my plants started growing so tall some years ago, after changing the location where I plant them, I started putting one plant holder on top of the other, then I wire the baskets to my 6 ft chain link fence. My plants in most years grow a foot to 2 ft over the top of the fence. Usually what stops them from growing any taller is the length of our growing season, when the temps cool down, like it has been lately, they slow or stop growing in height and the fruit start to ripen. This year has been different because we started getting tomatoes in July, in most years it isn't until Aug. I put nitrogen on my plants in the spring when the plants are small, to get them to start growing but once they take off, I don't add anything but water to my garden.
