To spear...or not to spear?
#44
[quote scartinez]So how many 4lbs smallies you caught this year hook, line, and sinker? My guess is 0. I'm thinking it's a bit easier to spear a nice bass then it is to catch one.

I know this wasn't for me but I'll field it. The answer is 3 over 4# hook and line and 0 speared. All 3 released if you want to know. A buddy of mine who spearfishes caught a22" smallie this spring also released.
Spearfishing brings different challenges and different thrills than hook and line but challenging and enjoyable all the same. For instance spending 6 hours in the water and making countless dives while covering some 2.5 miles of shoreline in June to score a 5.5# walleye! much more enjoyable, for me, than bottom bouncing for the same amount of time and a 1-2 minute fight to catch a similar fish. Good discussion so far everybody.
Edit...oops just reread you said smallies so only 2, 1 was a largemouth through the ice
