[#005028]To start off, I think Tubedude should be banned. His fishing reports are too long and too blue, he goes fishing too often, especially getting out during the week and rubbing it in the noses of the still-working class, all his tackle bling makes other crafters feel inept, and he catches too damned many fish and cooks them up all kinds of fancy pants ways. (sarcasm font color applied [:p])
[/#005028]I think the survey options need an edit. Doesn't make sense.
That said, the rough and rowdy board was not a "private" group for Utah report, it's a general group with lax restrictions so folks could swear, curse, crack dirty jokes and put users down in front of or behind their backs.
The number of lurkers who take all and give nothing is bothersome. One thing I find discouraging is to take the time to photograph, edit, and compile a fish-tail, and have 3000 views and two replies. Doesn't encourage me to put the effort into making reports. But I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'll probably still seek the fame and fortune if I have something worth bragging about, or joking about.
I think not locking down the whole board, but having a members only report thread in addition to the open thread would allow folks that want to share that 10lb walleye would be good.
Might encourage some lurkers to actually sign up, but I agree - a post limit too. Make em earn it.
Beating up the new guy, any beating up on someone who posts a legal catch, personal slam-blasting - all should be edited, or the yellow card options sounds good. Opinions are fine well and good, but if that 10lb walleye receives a "I hope you put it back" reply, no - keep that shit to yourself.
If someone breaks the regs maybe a PM, or report option rather than a public flogging would be best. Some people can learn proper Musky handling or not to put a 30lb Mack on a stringer before releasing it. But not by way of public ridicule. I got beat up for collecting minnows - I'm sorry, but that's what cast nets are FOR! And show me the limit.
The "like" option as Facebook has, pros and cons. Sometimes that's all folks want to do, shows support or encouragement, but might deter actual replies. A single reply to a post? No. Discussion is good, back and forth doesn't have to mean demeaning debate. Questions and answers... it's all good (mostly)
PARAGRAPHS - I have a hard time reading a long string with no breaks. Old eyes. Punctuation saves lives.
Being able to upload multiple pictures at once. One at a time is a pain. Fix the PM attachment limit crap.
Have more prizes from the board owners for contests. I've had loads of new members join because of a contest. The site makes dough off all those ads we are subjected to.
Locking posts has a place. When a horse is beat, it's beat. It's used with reservation, but it has it's place and can be better than fully removing a post. There's learning to be had. And besides where else would I get to share a picture like this!
