I would go with the breathable ones. I have found with thermals and some fleece pants that I keep plenty warm. I have spent long hours out in a kick boat with water temperatures in the 30's and stayed warm.
Now about keeping your feet warm, that is a problem I have not solved. I've tried all different kinds of socks, including electric ones and after about two or three hours in the tube I lose touch with my toes. Maybe if you hooked the electric ones up to a car battery they could keep you warm but the D cells just don't cut it.[]
