[#0000FF]I suspect that whatever your dad experienced was only a temporary thing. There are no permanent channels in the lake bed. Instead, there are varying depths that are often all filled in level with shifting sediments.
For example, there is a deeper depression (up to 20' deep) off the west side of Bird Island. But 90 percent of the time it will be no deeper than the surrounding bottom. However, when a strong west wind blows in it can scour out that depression and suddenly there is a big hole where there was none before.
The slough you are referring to is Benjamin Slough. It is also known as Beer Slough. Some years there is a fair amount of spring runoff pouring in there but never enough to create a long channel out into the lake. To the contrary it dumps mud and sediment into the lake so that the depth at the inflow is often shallower than areas to the east or west.
I fish that whole area a lot from my float tube...with sonar. And I can assure you there are no secret holes between the mouth of the slough and Bird Island. However, there are lots of humps, bumps, holes and channels out off Lincoln Point. If you learn them you can almost always find something to bite your offerings.
