A friend of mine and I fished Deer Creek today from our kick boats. We launched at the "Dock of the Bay" ramp and fished the bay from the island and south. We were using fly tackle with sinking lines for #4 to #7 and various leeches, crystal buggers, and woolly bugger patterns in ginger, green/tan, pink, and olive. We had the best luck out in 20' - 40' of water but the fish were hooked in the upper 10' of the water column. All we caught were rainbows from 12" to 17" long. The water temperature was 37-38 degrees. The air temp was in the 20's when we got there at 8:30 and in the 40's when we left at around 2:30. The reservoir is 80% full and rising with no ice except up on the Charleston end. It was a beautiful day after the fog burned off and the fishing wasn't bad either.[]
