Back when I was living in Utah, we used to fish a place called Willard Bay. It was notorious for the good size crappie and had its reputation as well for carp.
My Dad, brother and I all had our fair share of carp one day while fishing for for crappie with 2lb line on ultra lite gear. The smallest carp that we caught was barely 16lb and TubeDude managed to get one that was 25lb. It took about 1/2 hr to land it but he sure got the respect from the other anglers that were there that day.
All in all we pulled out about 30 carp. Many of them were 20lb or better. I was just 13 at the time and learned alot about finesse. It is definetely fun to play on light tackle.
It wasn't so easy with the cats though. We had to use 8lb out of the float tubes back then. We would usually do early morning (3 to 4am on the water) shots for the cats. Back then they would usually run from 10 to 28lbs. It was always fun to hook into a big cat on the tube and just wave good bye to my dad as I promised him that I would be back in a short while.
