Fishin' 2-13-2015

Julie and I launched the Skeeter from Callville I think Feb 12th. The lot was empty!

Slightly cool for T shirts/ Bluebird day, flat all day. Out through the narrows and over to Bonelli Bay then Middle Point Island and Rotary Cove.on the way in. Water temp 58°

I wanted to run some $1.99 fuel through the Yamaha to clean out the lines. She'd sat un-started for about 8 weeks. Dumped a can of SeaFoam in each tank; topped the tanks off and ran some.

We never graphed a fish( striper or bass) and caught nothing. Did see a couple sheep around MIddle Point.
---------------------------------

Sunday 2/15: I don't usually launch on weekends as a rule but we had been vegging Thursday and Friday and sitting around on Saturday waiting for no show house guests and were a bit antsy.

I think Julie counted 25 rigs at Callville, but only about 10 bass-boat trailers. Maybe a club tournament?

Started with a drop shot, grub rod and jig rod on deck. We stayed closer (Firebowl) and fished on the Nevada side at first (primary and secondary points). Again nothing much on the graphs...
Moved to the Arizona side and tried some steeper walls and bluff points. Water temp 60° at 10:30 and up to 62.5° by afternoon. My temp gauge is about 12" below water line and the temp got to 55/53° when we were running.

Julie suggested we go into Indian Canyon Cove. I hadn't fished there in a long time and with the water level down structure previously at + 70ft. depths is now 20 to 35ft deep and perfect for Smallmouth spawning territory; lots of crawdad terrain. There was one rig in there staked out on a secondary cove/point. I finally, late afternoon, got a follow on a 1/8th oz.Kalin's grub but he saw me and turned. About 20 to 25 ft on a deeper flat (larger secondary point). I was fishing it as a drop bait or letting it sink to the bottom then lift and drop. The follow came on a lift and drop

We gave Indian Cove a fairly though going over but stayed off the other fisherman.

To end the day we finished in Rotary Cove. Ran to the back and nothing so I pulled out to near the floating toilet. The is a peninsula there from which extends a flat point topping out in 11 ft right now. I threw the jig over the point on the far downhill side and got tapped almost immediately and rather aggressively. I did miss him though. Thinking maybe there is a school, I cast the jig again over the point out in deeper water( maybe 25 to 30 ft.). About that time Julie gets a massive line tangle as the flouro on her spinning reel springs off. Now I am on the front deck (with my baitcaster held between my legs) trying to get the tangle out of her rod and I see my line jump and move off.

Too funny but there is nothing for it. It takes a couple minutes to clear the loops and twists and rewind so she is back in business. Thinking ...well I missed the only fish of the day....I start to reel in and a 2lb smallie is mad and on the other end. Had the jig point in the roof of his mouth and the line wound behind the brush guard. He was a dark fish too.
