Great report Top20.
Really appreciate everyone that has been getting after the Fish Lake perch this winter. The more the better, for the present time.
I've been reading other reports from time to time, about folks pursuing these tasty little buggers. It sure is great to see how folks have responded to the need to reduce the perch up there.
Don't forget to get after them again this summer too, boat rentals are pretty reasonable at the two resorts at the Lake, and the perch bite every bit as aggressively in the summer as they do through the ice.
The nice thing about summer perch fishing is it's much easier to park on the edge of the moss line, because the water is so clear it's easy to see where it starts and stops.
Here is another tasty way to eat perch:
Fillet 10 or 12 perch and boil the fillets for about 4 to 5 minutes in a sauce plan of salted water. Drain off water and chill cooked perch in refrigerator.
Pour the contents of a bottle of Shrimp Cocktail Sauce in a small mixing bowl, add a half cup of diced crispy celery, and a half cup of thin sliced green onions or finely dice raw sweet white or yellow onion. Add a table spoon of lemon juice. Mix the Sauce, celery, onion, and lemon juice together and refrigerate.
At serving time, crumble the cooked perch into the Sauce mixture. Stir the perch into the Sauce and server on crackers of your choice.
Thanks for getting after the perch at Fish Lake folks. Hopefully, you'll enjoy the trip to the outdoor back country, the fishing, the eating and the fruits of your labor with bigger perch and better trout fishing. Sure seems like a win, win!
