Kicker motor fuel tank question

When I purchased a new bass tracker with a Mercury optimax as the main motor and a 9.9 Mercury kicker I thought they would all be hooked up to the boats main tank. The dealer said it wouldn't be a good idea because of "pressure issues" with the Optimax. Anyway I have been running the kicker with the 3 gallon plastic tank with no issues on carpet or upholstery.
