I never keep a tally on the number of cats I catch... unless they are over 30 inchers -- only one this year.[frown] I probably catch more cats than some of the guys because I fish for them more than most do. Just one of the perks of being retired.
Not sure about the bait size thing. I use a pretty big hunk of carp meat or a full fillet of a wb most of the time with a hook-behind-a-hook set up. I took my crew out last Monday and let them fish for wb with an itty-bitty jig TubeDude made up... a flashy little red head with a red and yellow skirt. They caught a couple of wb and then Catcarsen hooked into a nice channel. The jig and a tip of carp meat was not more than a couple of inches long so I guess they eat whatever appeals to them.
I believe they will bite better and fight harder when the water temps warm up to the upper 60's. Maybe next week?? I'll be there.
