Your correct on the maps, I think there are better mapping systems out there, Navionics if you put it into sonar charts mode will show more lakes that people have used there sonar phones and other units on.
I am no guru when it comes to these mapping systems and even had trouble with downloading some maps I bought for my raytheon dragon fly when I had it. Not sure if you can see it in the web app but if you look at tibble fork in sonar charts mode I am the one that mapped that lake. last year.
I also mapped some of Calder res also.
When I said you could use the Nav app along with the tpod I meant separately, have them both open on your phone and switch between the two. Make sure you download the area you are fishing before you lose data so you can use it off line on the lakes your fishing.
This might not be the right setup for you but it is portable and well worth the money for a GPS fishfinder That works pretty dang good for what it is. Caught allot of fish with it so far. So I am confident with it.
