Help a dude teach his kid to fish at UL

I took my son to the area around the bridge leading into the UL state park last week. I'd heard great stories from by bros on this site about catching tons of white bass. We jigged and lured and tried all sorts of things. The white bass were right down in the water. I COULD SEE THEM! But they were not interested.

I live in Springville, so I'd like to take my son back there or to Lincoln Beach, or somewhere around Springville, but I need some help knowing what to use and exactly where to go. We don't have a boat.
