Can anyone ID this "grouper" species?!

A scamp has a stringy tail, spots vary a lot but when you look at the end of the tail on a gag vs a scamp I am certain this is a gag. I can't see the spread on the upper dorsal but, in my opinion the end of the tail is a dead give away. That is the first thing I look at.
