If your bearings haven't been repacked in a while or if they have some slop in them it would be a good idea to clean them out, repack, and torque the nut back to spec. There's no need to do so before or during the install of your bearing buddies though. Having the buddies on there will help ensure you have grease in there at all times, and prevent water from getting in, but it won't magically clean out and adjust your bearings for you. The buddies are great to have, especially on boat trailers. Make sure when you load them up with grease you don't overfill them. Pump just until you see the piston move a little bit. If you fill them to the max it will put too much pressure on the seals. Good luck and be sure to post a report of your Cascade trip!
