I'll take a guess at why a school of fish aren't feeding, but I have a good clue based on the digital vvideo recording on my MarCum LX-9.
I was ice fishing Pineview in a huge school of crappie with the camera looking at my lure from three feet away. Others around me were catching some and I wasn't.
The video shows a huge tiger musky slowly cruising by many times. My lure measured 1-1/2" and the tiger musky head filled the screen from three feet away! Then it's body can be seen slowly moving past, so the whole fish couldn't be seen at once, but a crude estimate of size is around 50 inches!
Could it be that the crappie weren't activity feeding because their greater concern was not becoming tiger muskie food?
Others catching fish reported seeing only a few small fish on their finders and nothing huge. My screen showed lots of small green and yellow specks which were the crappie as confirmed by simultaneous video, but it also occasionally showed a huge bright red blob moving in and out.
Fishing right in the middle of the high density school resulted in no bites while others got bites from outside of the school.
