[cool]I can definitely relate. I spent a good part of my early years on the other coast...in southern Cal. I also miss all the quality and quantity of seafood for the taking...and the fast action during the respective runs.
I have experienced wide open bluefish and school stripers along the east coast. It is a ball. Never fished much for the porgies, but have done my share on the fluke and flounder.
It is great to see how the stripers are coming back. I guess they were just about zeroed out before they shut down both the commercial and sport fisheries, to give them a chance.
If you have only been in Utah 8 months, you are still working on your dose of culture shock...especially after coming from a cosmopolitan area of New York. Learn to use your clutch and downshift a whole lotta gears. There will probably be a few areas that you will never totally accept, after New York.
The good news is that there is some outstanding fishing to be had in Utah. I have fished all over the country, and while there are areas that have better fishing for one species or another, it is hard to find a state with better angling for more species than Utah. But, you will have to do without live bait...and your chum bucket. That will get you in big trouble very fast in the beehive state. And, whatever you do, don't ever have any corn in your possession when you go fishing there. That is a firing squad offense.
Hang in there, and make the best of the cards you are dealt.
