2004 trout stocking meeting
#1
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of
Fish and Wildlife will present its recommended 2004 trout stocking plan
and the state's first Coldwater Fisheries Management Plan at 10 a.m.,
Saturday, February 14, at the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural
Resource Education Center in Warren County.

The plan calls for 575,000 - 600,000 trout to be released during the
spring trout-stocking season. The number of trout stocked in 2004 will
be similar to past years.

The comprehensive Coldwater Fisheries plan outlines more than a century
of trout management activities, fish culture operations, habitat
requirements and wild trout resources. The document also establishes
goals and includes a five-year work plan for implementing identified
strategies. It is being released in draft form so that anglers,
conservation groups and other stakeholders can provide comment on the
future direction of managing the state's vital coldwater resources.

Additional agenda topics include hatchery production figures and
changes for the 2004 stocking program. For those wanting to attend, the
Pequest facility is located on Rt. 46, nine miles west of Hackettstown
in Oxford.

A copy of the spring allocation schedule will be made available upon
council approval and can be obtained by sending a self-addressed,
stamped, business-sized envelope to the: NJ Division of Fish and
Wildlife, Bureau of Freshwater Fisheries, P.O. Box 400, Trenton, NJ
08625-0400, Attn: Spring Allocation Schedule.
