9' FOW, south end, 2"-3" of snow on top of 3"-5" slush, then 3"-4" frozen slush and no more than 4" of solid ice wherever I looked. I fished on the edge of an untracked, slushy area and when I walked over to put the anchor in that spot my anchor punched through a an inch or so or crush, 4 inches of slush, and then sunk in about a couple inches of frozen slush and surely no more than a couple inches of solid ice. The "highways" are frozen slush all the way down but man, the other parts seems sketchy. Caught about thirty really healthy, chubby, colorful but small perch. They're bigger this year, pulling all the perch out for Yuba seems to be having an effect. Most fish caught on a tiny green ratfinkee with mealworm and another ice jig in a glow perch pattern (the one that comes with most jawjackers, they work great.)

Nice, I still have never fished at Fish Lake, soft water or ice, guess I should get down there at some point.

Hey Jed,
Did you try any deeper or was it too sketchy for you? I was hoping some colder temps over the past couple of nights would firm things up a bit on Fish Lake. Sounds like it is fishable but you gotta be careful....

There were 10-15 tents in a row along what I would estimate to be 50-60 FOW, and several cheers coming from different groups out there throughout the day.

The ice seems safe all around, it's just the combination of white ice and clear ice that bothers me but I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to ice. Probably because I'm mostly alone when ice fishing. Also, the ice was silent the entire day from 10:00 to 4:00 when I left and you know what they say, noisy ice is growing ice.

I really appreciate the more detailed update as well. There's a few of us going (due to the challenge) and we're all newbs to ice fishing except my buddy driving down from Idaho. He's pretty seasoned, so he'll (hopefully) make sure we stay safe and don't do anything stupid....haha! Any other updates or advice would be appreciated. - Cheers

Make sure everyone has ice picks, might not be a bad idea to have a throw rope. If you stick to the tracks on the ice it's mostly frozen, but once you get off the track to drill your holes you'll have mixed depths of slush. Make sure your anchors are in the ice, not the crust on top. If you have little ones, be prepared for them to go down in the slush, not a problem if they have a good snow suit of course. Water's nice and clear, if you get in a tent and close all the windows, you can see clear to the bottom in 20' FOW or more and set the hook by sight.
