Hyrum Beast
#1

Took a trip over to Hyrum today since I live close by. Generally I don't do great there but today was different. I latched onto a 25 inch brown right away and then caught two perch and 4 smaller rainbows. The brown weighed about 6 pounds. Never expected anything like that from Hyrum. I was using meal worms in about 10 feet of water near swim beach. I drilled thru 11 inches of frozen slush and ice. Nice day and lots of people out there until noon.

Nice job, been wondering what happened to all those Browns that were planted. Don't hear of many being caught. Congrats on a nice one. J

Glad you had a great catch. I was also at Hyrum with the wife and some friends but only managed two catch 2 bows between the 4 of us. Must have been setup in the wrong spot. I was setup in 48 FOW near the cabins. I have had great luck there in the past but not yesterday. Oh well, maybe next time.

I didn't put it back. My wife's boss wants fish to eat and I figured this would be some good brownie points. She said he was impressed when he got it.

Nice fish! Just curious how's the ice up there? I was planning on taking my kids up on Saturday.

This ice is solid. I drilled thru 8 inches but it seemed that between the top layer and the bottom was some frozen slush. The auger seemed to have a different feel as it went all the way through than it would have with solid frozen water.

Nearly a foot thick. Plenty of safe ice for sure.

Hey welcome to the forum... Hyrum can be interesting from day to day different spots will treat you good or bad... In the deeper water it seems like you rely on a school swimming by, and if they aren't there it's a crap shoot if they will come by... Plus I don't know if you had sonar or not, but if you aren't at the correct level you may have had fish swimming by all day, but none seen your offering.. I've found on Hyrum that 3' can mean the difference between catching 57 fish or 3 fish... Didn't matter which lure or bait I used, one hole was simply hot and the other was not and both were in the same ice tent... That was way more info that you wanted, but welcome and hope your next trip is better... Later J

I didn't see anyone around me close catching anything so I have no report on that.
