Hehe. I can only imagine what the sound is like. When it gets this cold I tend to stay indoors as much as possible. When it warms up and I get some warm clothing to wear, I'll be a bit braver and try out the ice-fishing gear. Maybe the fish will be too tired and weary to not be thinking about what they're doing and they'll just keep grabbing my hook!

ON LAKE ERIE I'VE HAD THE ICE CRACH AND HEAVE UP AS MUCH AS 4 FEET RIGHT NEXT TO ME . OTHER TIMES YOU CAN HEAR THE CRACK COMMING AT YOU LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN FROM MILES AWAY .

BUT THATS ON A BIG LAKE . SMALLER LAKES AREN'T AS LOUD BUT YOU WILL GET THE SAME NATURAL RESPONSE AS THE REST OF US DO , RUN !!!!! LOL !

How thick is unsafe when the stress cracks start? You've got me worried now. Maybe I should save my money and not go to Canada. Hmmm. I'm gonna tell Flagman what you've done to me!

the preasure cracks are more scary than dangerous unless you are sitting on top of one like I was on lake st clair. one side heaved up 3 feet and tiped me over on my back right off my bucket.

there are two kinds of cracks. one is when the lake is making ice, the other is when the ice is thawing.

the dangerous one is when the ice is thawing, unless you are racing orv on the big lakes like michigan st clair erie superior.

the smaller lakes just make a high powered rifle sound. when creating ice.

when thawing it makes more like a soop bean and beer feast sound. when you hear that one get off the ice asap. especialy on the bigger lakes or lakes with moving water. they can open up and swallow a man and not leave a trace.

if you are going out with Flagman, you are in good shape, he has a good handle on what is going on.
